SHENANIGANS!!!

Lies. Pure Weekday Lies. Photo by S. John Davey

All right, I’m calling shenanigans.

Every single day when I’m at work it’s gorgeous outside.  Little fluffy bunnies are hopping around praising the Lord for Spring, children are giggling and playing with puppies, folks are getting ice cream, and rainbows abound.  And every single day I go to work anyway, like a somewhat responsible semi-adult.  I tell myself I’ll get my dues and that my weekend will be nothing but bliss.  I tell myself it will all be worth it and it’s okay that I didn’t get a chance to even take a lunch and walk amongst the bunnies and rainbows because I will have a super awesome Saturday and Sunday.

I’ve been lying to myself.

Every single weekend is disgusting.  There’s gloom covering the entire world as soon as I wake up on Saturday and it morphs into variations of wet, cold, and generally disappointing throughout the weekend.

Where are the bunnies?

I think it’s B.S., quite frankly.  When I was in college, I could just skip class when it was beautiful outside.  Or I could just look forward to the enormous amount of time I had between classes when I could lay out in the sun and bask in the glory of pre-adulthood.  I had a wonderful relationship with work and the world – I was responsible and in return I was consistently rewarded with a super awesome time.

Someone has changed the rules.

What do I have to do? Do I have to play hooky? Is the world telling me that I should just forget about work one of these days and go enjoy the glorious sun? Because I’m pretty sure my boss will murder me if I do that.

Why is the world trying to get me murdered?

So here I am on a  Saturday morning, with my basket full of hope thrown in the trash.  I’ve exchanged it for a big load of misery, induced by the weather that will never let me enjoy its finer phases.  There’s an incredible dark cloud over my town and its mocking me.

Is this what I get for being a somewhat responsible semi-adult – a big bucket of disappointment?

I call shenanigans.

P90X Update: 9/90 complete.  Hey – I’m a tenth of the way through – I guess that’s something.   Yesterday I hated every single second of it.  I felt like a kid sent to fat camp.   I really, really, hate doing this.

Let’s all move to Spain. I heard they still practice siestas there. 😀

On a serious note, I place a lot of the blame on the hectic, busy-bee, scurry-about type of lifestyle that people have embraced here in the western world.
Who thought that was a good idea anyway???
And when was the last time that 1hr actually felt like a lunch break. If you don’t pack your own food, it’ll take at least 15mins to find/get food, 30mins to shovel it down and another 15 to “rest” then get back to work. That’s not enough time. I’d like to try that 4 day work week with 3 day weekends; that would rock.

(Keep up with the p90x Jackie! Think small, achievable goals. Like getting through the next 9!)

I would LOVE to move to Spain. I don’t know why I’m so obsessed with the idea, but I can think of nothing more splendid. Boo altogether to the western world – it’s not my idea of a life well-lived anymore. And I definitely agree with lunch. I usually pack it and just stay at my desk because it’s less stressful.

Thanks for the P90X Support. And I do have small goals – I’m always working for the next rest day! 😛

Oh and green pastures that stretches to the horizon are the stuff of my dreams! I love those landscapes. I hope to live in a place like that someday.

Don’t bother going to Spain, they have rain and wind there too.
The weather has always been the same. I can remember way back when I was working. Weekdays it was hot and sunny , all the folks who came into the shop stopped under the air con to cool off. BUT come the weekend, it was cold, and wet.
    Come Monday…lovely and sunny..
Never mind ,give a great big smile .That will brighten up your day.
In Barbados they call the rain ..liquid sunshine!
    Love P

Ugh, I hate it when I’m at work and the sun is shining nice and bright outside. And I’m still a student! Well not for the full 100% though, I’m doing an internship at the moment, which basically means I’m a working student. No money but still 40 hours a week in an office 😦

How rude of the universe, right? You work hard for no money AND get denied beautiful weekends. I say strike.

I hope you had incredibly important things to tend to in that kitchen. When glorious days are so few and far between, one must not spend them in kitchens.

Hey – if I get through this thing and I hate every moment of it, then at least I can look forward to the fact that any other form of exercise is more enjoyable. 🙂
