This is how confused I am. All of the time.
Everything keeps changing on me.
I must be getting old because that is supposed to be read as a negative thing.
As most of you know by now Facebook has rearranged its interface with a small but highly significant change where instead of viewing the most recent posts, you’re viewing the most recent/most popular/most likely to be wanted by you posts. I’m trying to get used to it, just like I’ve gotten used to all their updates in the past. But by golly is it becoming a pain to constantly feel like I have a handle on something and then have it shaken up again.
Then I logged into WordPress and find a “Follow” button was added at the bottom of my blog (and was subsequently removed my yours truly).
A few days later, they changed the admin bar. Again – no big deal and easily consumed, but ruffles the old, crotchety feathers nonetheless.
Then I check out the big Facebook announcement by the Zuckerberg himself yesterday at F8. It appears all of our updates have really just been leading up to this one, enormous update wherein our Facebook profiles will read more like a scrapbook timeline than a snapshot of who we are at the moment. I breathed heavily, held on to the piece of furniture closest to me, and thought that to avoid these constant tremors I should probably just make the complete plunge into Google+ and leave Facebook in the dust, as I have once before. But then it occurred to me that Google+ is just a little baby. And it too, shall grow.
Not to mention I would have to pour all the dust out of my cerebrum in order to make room to learn a new social media platform.
Is there any way to just have people relax for a little while? I’d like to get comfortable just a tad before the rug is pulled out from underneath me. I can’t even complain that I like things the way they used to be because there have been so many versions of ‘what used to be’ that there’s no way to know what I’m referring to.
Nonetheless, I fear my brain is running out of go-juice. I’ve been so proud of myself for finally branching out on my blog into CSS editing and for opening a Twitter account and for dipping my toes in Google+. But this whole time I’ve just had a false sense of security and pride. These things will always change, and I will never be on top of them. And while that used to be fun and exciting, now it just costs me time and frustration.
A sign of aging, indeed.

CSI, Google+,…I don’t even know what those things are! I had to fight my way through a swamp of cyber alligators to get to your blog this morning, because WordPress is all katywampus and my subscriptions have disappeared.

Facebook’s ticker is very much like the old ‘shout’ system they had on a different social network I used many years ago.
As long as Word Press don’t take my subscriptions away again I can cope ( just ). Although I did panic when I couldn’t find my comments button

I must say that it is comforting to read of your struggles to keep up when I realize you are half my age. I learned years ago that the only constant on which we can depend is change itself. We live in “white water” all day every day, so the best we can do is try to maneuver the rapids while enjoying the ride.
Nonetheless, I feel your pain and have seriously pondered dropping off the grid entirely rather than incorporate yet another so-called upgrade to the technology I’ve come to see (aka deluded myself into believing) as necessary. Of course, if I’m using terms like “drop off the grid” without even a hint of irony, I’m probably too far gone to seriously consider it anyway.

Twitter? Google+? .
In spite of my supervising the manufacture of large main frame computers systems for NCR Electronics Division and also being employed as an industrial engineer in support of their manufacture at XEROX, a “Technologically Challenged” person. As I’m 76, and more than a few of my HS classmates as well as others my age don’t even use the internet at all, methinks part of it is age related.
Anywho, if I ever figure out how to use the new HP laptop rather than the WebTV I have been “Netting” for over 13 years, perhaps face book or something similar is in my future.
As far as “these things will always change” methink’s perhaps the only thing which will
never change is there will always be change.
Last, If you want some REAL GO JUICE, do what I have been doing daily for over 15 years. It is to drink a natural immune boosting fruit juice which does so much I still have trouble believing it does what it does.
It’s been effectively used to treat many illnesses & injuries for over five thousand years and as it grows in the tropics all around the world, it has many different names. The name most know if of is Noni Juice. And it is about the only thing
I can ever remember calling a true miracle.

Isn’t it overwhelming to have to constantly be keeping up with the swift changes in technology? You’re either in the loop or entirely out – and it can be just a matter of a few months before you have no idea what’s going on. Craziness.

I’m so with you in all of this!!! And, like you, I thought of switching to google but haven’t – for the same reasons. I may have to go back to the old fashioned method if communicating if things keep on changing like this!!

I’m sure I’ll take the plunge soon – it will take me a while to download all the pics on there of me. For the longest time I just relied on my friends to document my life for me and so I have entire years that I have no pictures I took of myself – they’re all on Fbook and need downloaded to my comp. before I bid farewell. But I’ve felt it coming for a while now. Before I know it, I’ll be one of those freaks who doesn’t watch TV OR use Facebook. The horror! 😉

THis is my plan… Get rid of Facebook..it is a blot on my life and is full of people playing stupid games. I shall leave my Twitter account it is as I have many followers on there who read my blog. I do not however ‘tweet’

So Jackie, sort out what you want, what you need and get rid of the rest. Google + will be the same as Facebook so that is out…
As for age..you are very young,( lucky lady). You are supposed to live life in the fast lane according to my daughter who does just that and she is 38.
As I am the wrong side of 72 I should be the one slowing down not you. So sort it out Jackie me dear and life will be easier…

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one frustrated by what seems like tooooo many changes on wordpress lately. Damn, it’s really exhausting. My soul is slightly comforted by the fact that you are half my age and yet even you find this aggravating as well. Misery truly does love company.
